As licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, we focus on helping patients feel empowered. Whether you’re recovering from surgery or fighting chronic pain, we customize our exercise therapy to exceed expectations. The level of training in exercise prescription at c.h. Physical Therapy surpasses that of any other physical therapy group in Oregon. Our physical therapists are required to complete an in-house post-doctoral training program1 before they treat patients. Furthermore, our patients work directly with our physical therapists, not aides or assistants.
Many people have had physical therapy, but what kind of physical therapy? Outpatient physical therapy varies widely depending on the provider.
Many clinics emphasize passive treatments (e.g., manual therapy, ultrasound, hot packs) over exercise. c.h. Physical TherapySM is the opposite, as we emphasize exercise therapy when dealing with chronic health problems, as research shows that passive treatments are effective only when combined with professionally prescribed exercise therapy. (White NT et al. Phys Ther 2015). Therefore, the majority of our physical therapy prescribes carefully designed exercises to increase strength, flexibility and endurance. Passive treatment is used only when indicated and/or requested, so patients at c.h. Physical TherapySM largely heal through discipline and hard work.
Our physical therapists work closely with your physician to ensure uninterrupted and consistent care. Our services are covered by insurance, including Medicare and Family Care.
1 All c.h. physical therapists must complete our in-house, peer-reviewed, post-doctoral Advanced Training Specialist (A.T.S.) program in exercise prescription before seeing patients. The A.T.S. program has been learned by hundreds of physical therapists and physicians, whose peer review helped establish it as a credible teaching tool in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Since 2001, Colin Hoobler, the founder of c.h. Physical TherapySM and the A.T.S. program has taught it nationally at physical therapy schools, medical schools and through the American Physical Therapy Association and the Oregon Physical Therapy Association. The A.T.S. program incorporates applied biomechanics, sports medicine, and neuroscience in exercise prescription in an effort to maximize exercise benefit while minimizing joint forces. Consequently c.h. Physical TherapySM exercise programs tend to be more effective and more efficient than conventional physical therapy programs.
